Blue Bird – Handmade Asymmetric Plexiglass Bird Statement Earrings

A bird in flight, an abstract oval shape and cascading gold-tone chains come together in Blue Bird, a striking pair of handmade asymmetric earrings that transforms jewellery into a miniature artistic composition. Combining sculptural silhouettes, fluid colours and reflective gold details, the design moves beyond traditional jewellery forms to create an expressive statement accessory.

Inspired by the freedom of flight, organic forms and abstract art, Blue Bird reflects Funk Da Queen’s distinctive approach to contemporary handmade jewellery. Unexpected proportions, rich colours and carefully layered materials come together in a design that celebrates movement, individuality and the beauty of unconventional compositions.

The most dramatic element features a bird captured in mid-flight, with its wings extended and its elongated tail creating an expressive silhouette. Crafted from marbled plexiglass, the bird displays flowing shades of electric blue, turquoise, teal and deep green. The swirling patterns within the material resemble brushstrokes, giving the impression that colour is moving across its surface.

Reflective gold mirror plexiglass follows the outline of the bird’s wings, highlighting their jagged edges and creating a striking contrast against the cooler shades. The combination of sharp golden details and fluid marbled patterns gives the design an almost sculptural quality, while the extended blue tail feathers introduce an additional sense of movement.

Delicate gold-tone chains hang in different lengths, adding a dramatic finishing touch to the composition. Their natural movement contrasts with the structured plexiglass elements, creating an interesting balance between solid geometric shapes and freely flowing metallic details. As the jewellery moves, the reflective surfaces catch the light, revealing different aspects of the design.

The second earring offers a completely different interpretation of the same artistic concept. An oval silhouette with an irregular, softly undulating gold mirror frame surrounds a marbled plexiglass centre in shades of blue, turquoise and green. Its swirling colours evoke an abstract painting, a miniature landscape or an imagined world captured inside a reflective golden border.

The asymmetric composition is the defining characteristic of Blue Bird. Rather than repeating the same design on both sides, the earrings create a visual dialogue through their shared colour palette and metallic details. One element celebrates the dramatic movement of a bird in flight, while the other focuses on fluid colour, organic shapes and abstract texture.

Every pair is handcrafted in the Funk Da Queen studio, where individual plexiglass components are precisely cut, layered and carefully assembled by hand. Special attention is given to the detailed wing outlines, contrasting materials and positioning of the decorative chains. The result combines meticulous construction with an expressive artistic approach
